The Denver Zoo
The Denver Zoo is a well-known Denver attraction that offers visitors plenty to see and do while on a vacation trip. Consisting of over one hundred thousand animals, the zoo offers a number of experiences for people of all ages. While at the zoo, families can take part in one of several on-site attractions or venture out into the zoo’s various zones including the Stanleyville section of the zoo, the Discovery Zone, or the Aquarium. During the summer, Denver Zoo guests can go on a raft ride along the river with live animals!
Denver Zoo has two main attractions – the Stanleyville section of the park which include ten miles of hiking and biking trails, and the Discovery Zone which feature interactive exhibits and live animals. Other local wildlife include deer hunting and the Great outdoors adventure playground. Other fun activities include the Wizarding World of Gala, where visitors can feel like they are in an enchanted world of wizardry while looking at hundreds of feet of colorful scenery and touring historical buildings. Other highlights of the Denver Zoo include the Billard Performance Center, the Aquarium, and the Garden pavilion which serve as the park’s gift shop. On select nights the zoo will host a Gala Noir featuring live entertainment.
For a more relaxing experience, visitors may wish to check out the Rocky Mountain Park Zoo and Wildlife Center, which is located just outside the city. A full year round inventory of the mountain’s different species can be viewed in the on-site zoo, making it the ideal place to go to learn about the Colorado wildlife and plants. This facility was created by the U.S. Department of Wildlife and the state of Colorado in cooperation. While on vacation, you can drive a short distance to the Denver Zoo and still be able to see some of the best Colorado wildlife because of the limited access that has been placed on the mountain.
